Handyperson Star

Photograph of Louise BrownHelping Hands handyperson Louise Bown will soon have to get used to being recognised in the street as she is set to become the star of billboards and adverts on the side of taxis all over the city.

Louise will be promoting the Skills and Work service and providing a role model to women everywhere, by succeeding in what had been a traditionally male dominated sector whilst bringing up her young daughter single handed.

Since starting with the Helping Hands, Louise has been fully trained in joinery, fitting disabled adaptations, fitting laminate flooring, Risk Assessment, Affordable warmth etc., been assisted to pass her driving test and is now delivering an excellent repair service.

The service is open to older people, people with disabilities and families in receipt of benefits with a child under 5 years old who own their own homes or privately rent.

Whether repairing gutters or fitting locks, installing grab rails or advising on fire safety, Louise has proved a big hit, especially with female customers.

Louise has made a major contribution to the Helping Hands service which continues to go from strength to strength.

Helping Hands Team Building Event

Helping Hands looked to its staff for suggestions to have a team building event. One suggestion put forward was to erect some benches within Kersal Dale. Friends of Kersal Dale had secured funding to purchase materials for benches, however, they did not have the resources to build the benches.

Helping Hands liaised with the Salford Rangers to arrange this event for the 5th October 2009.

A total of 12 Helping Hands staff attended the team building event and 12 benches were erected on the old Manchester Racecourse side of Kersal Dale. Thank you letter received as follows:

On behalf of the Friends of Kersal Dale I would like to Thank You and all at Helping Hands for your team building exercise that helped to install the benches on the Old Manchester Racecourse side of Kersal Dale. I am sure the public will appreciate the benches as there is now somewhere to rest the weary legs.
Kind Regards
Harry (Chairman of Friends of Kersal Dale)
